It's Official I am a Callaway Employee

I finally got all the paper work for my offer this morning. They are going to be paying me fairly well. Not as well as I would have liked, but good enough to go down. My first day of work will be the 20th... Kind of short on time, so I will have to kick some butt on packing this place up!

I am planning on driving down the morning of the 17th. So everything has to be packed into the truck by Thursday evening the 15th. That gives me two weeks! I hope I can get everything done. Seems like there is a million things to do.

I am really excited for this opportunity. I think it will work out really well! I wish I could have stayed locally and did this job for my current company. But I couldn't wait forever. I had to go look for a real job. I guess you need to make a long move sometime in your life.... What better time than now.

Living in Carlsbad

I hate spending money and not really getting anything out of it. I especially hate paying rent. So now that there is a very good chance that we are moving down to Carlsbad, I started to look at places to buy. Since I don't think we will be able to comfortably afford a house, I looked for new townhomes and condos.

I ended up finding three new communities so far. And after researching them I am really excited to maybe be buying a new home. They all run in the mid $300s to low $400s, so it will be expensive. I think that it will be just like our current place though, and in 2 years they could be easily worth $500,000. So here are the three I found. (Click the pics to go to their websites, and click the GEarth next to the name to view the site in Google Earth)

Mystic Point:

3 miles to work, 4 miles to the beach, 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, 2 car garage with approximately 1,363 sq. ft., low $400,000s.

Sante Fe Walk:

8.5 miles to work, 8 miles to the beach, 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, 2 car garage with approximately 1,084 sq. ft., mid $300,000s.

Casitas at Spring Creek:

13.5 miles to work, 8 miles to the beach, 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, 2 car garage with approximately 1,365 sq. ft., low $400,000s.

So far we are leaning towards Mystic Point and Sante Fe Walk. But it all comes down to funding and availability. Oh and Karen and Me getting a job....

Callaway Job Update

So I got a call on Tuesday from the Callaway HR guy that I have been speaking with. He told me that my interviews went really well and that the team really liked what I could bring to the table. He was going to check my references next and they are working on an offer that I should get sometime this Thursday...

They said they weren't able to get all the way up to what I was asking for, but there was going to be a signing bonus and yearly bonuses. So I will have to wait and see it, then try to get them back up to what I asked for. Even if they don't budge, it is a really nice offer and I am most likely going to take it. I think this position has a lot of room for growth. They are planning a completely new line-up in '08, so the pressure is on the team. And Callaway's last full line launch was huge for the company. In the golf world, if you have a successful ball line, you have a successful company.

I am excited to see what the final offer will be.

Callaway Went Well

I had a good couple days down in Carlsbad last week. It was about 64 degrees both days and I was able to go play a little golf on Thursday. Callaway really spent some money to interview me. Looks like my flight cost about $500 (last minute I guess). And they got me a rental car at Avis that ran like $114, it was a nice Chevy HHR though... And they put me up in thus really nice hotel that had a huge bathroom and even a small kitchen in it, that ran them $124.

I have a problem with hotel rooms... For some reason, I don't know why, but within minutes of being in a hotel room I have trashed it. I just get stuff spread out everywhere for some reason and I don't know why.

The next morning I went to my interview at 9:00am. I was given a tour of the facility that took like 30 min, I was then interviewed by the Dir. of R&D for 30 min. He gave me a few easy technical questions to answer. I then had a panel interview that lasted 30 min. It was easy they weren't that prepared so their questions were really easy. And then the VP of Engineering came in for about 15 minutes and ask me a few "where do I see myself..." questions. And I finished up everything with the HR guy.

After I got done with the HR guy, 3 of the engineers took me out to lunch. We went to this nice Mexican place over-looking the beach in Carlsbad. We had a good time and had good conversations on all sorts of things. We talked football, baseball, soccer, traffic, weather, you name it.

I felt really good about this interview. I am suppose to hear back at the beginning of this week.... Hope I get a good offer.

Callaway Goods

So I did this for Titleist and I will do it now for Callaway. I know most of you don't care, but it's important to me. Unlike Titleist though, there isn't a product from every line that I like. With Callaway, there are some things I do not like. There isn't a bag that looks good to me and their apparel and footwear are not my style. So I don't know what I am going to do about that.

So here would be my setup if I get the Callaway job:

Driver:
FT-5 Tour 10.5 deg, Fujikura Speeder 569 Tour Spec X-Stiff Shaft

Fairway Woods:
Fusion 13 deg, Fujikura Speeder 652 Tour Spec Stiff Shaft
Fusion 17 deg, Fujikura Speeder 652 Tour Spec Stiff Shaft

Hybrids:
FT 20 deg, Fujikura Speeder 904HB Stiff Shaft
FT 23 deg, Fujikura Speeder 904HB Stiff Shaft

Irons:
X-Forged Irons, True Temper Tour Concept Stiff Shafts

Wedges:
X-Tour Wedges in 54, 56, 58, and 60 degrees

Putter:
Odyssey Black Milled #1

I will be heading down there at the end of the week and I have 2 full days in San Diego. I would go play Torrey pines again, but the PGA Buick Championship will be there the following week so my guess is that it will be closed. So I will have to find another course or two to play. But I guess they won't be as nice as Torrey....

HOORAY FOR SNOW!

So they said that we could wake up to some snow. And when they say that, that means we "won't" wake up to snow. But this time they came through with some snow!

And boy did it ever snow... We ended up getting almost 4 inches here in Hillsboro.

Too bad it won't continue, and it even is suppose to be too warm tomorrow to even keep it around very long. Oh well...

Another Job Update

Well without a "real" job, it being winter, and Karen in Italy... I have no life. I only leave the house to go work out, or go to the grocery store. I seriously need to get more hobbies.

I will be traveling to Carlsbad this coming week to have an interview with Callaway Golf. I know for a fact that I am over-qualified for this position, but if they want to pay to talk to me thats cool with me. I told them my salary expectations and they still wanted to talk to me. So this could be good. If they offer me the job, at the salary I want, I will then have a job that I could take some courses to get my Masters degree and not worry about work. They do pay 100% tuition, pay 100% Health Insurance, and I think they have relocation assistance... So this could be a good one.

I still haven't heard anything about the Nike position, but it is only a week old. I really want this job even though I know I am not qualified for it. We'll see what happens.

Here We Go Again

Tomorrow morning I have a phone interview with Callaway Golf. I am unsure of which position it is for. The HR guy just said it was for a Technician position, but I applied for two. So it will either be for the Specialist Technician job or the Sr. Technician (Robot Testing) job... Not sure which I would prefer, but if it pays like the similar Titleist position I interviewed for, I would take either.

And on Friday, Nike posted a Golf Ball Engineer position. I don't have the experience that they require, but I am still going to give it my all. Even if they turn me down, at least they will know that I am still motivated to get a job.

I will keep this site updated as I get further information about these jobs.

OMSI Senior Project

So I got an email the other day from my Project Director. He told me that my Senior Project will finally be on display. It will be in the upstairs exhibit starting January 20th. So I will find a day that I can go down and take as many people who want to see it. And I will get better pictures and video of it.

If you forget what it was or looked like, here is a past post on it.

I Am Home...

After traveling for 40 some odd hours I finally got home at 2:30 am Tuesday morning... I was obviously exhausted, but glad to be home. I had taken 4 flights, with 2 delays, and had slept on a bench in the London Gatwick Airport. But I did save 10 Pounds on my transfer from Heathrow to Gatwick.

I arrived in Heathrow and looked at taking the Underground to Gatwick, a sign was posted that it was free from 11:45pm to 4:30am. They were doing this for the New Year's celebration. So I rode for free into downtown and then paid 9 Pounds to get to Gatwick on the train. Sweet nothing like saving cash...

Anyways I came home to a cold, messed up house. So I need to clean this place up and try to get settled back in. Wishing I had some prosciutto and pesto for dinner right now.

Anyways I am in the process of building the Europe Travel website so keep your eyes open.
